Alexander not getting his due
SAN ANTONIO - At the annual Big 12 conference Media Days most coaches talk up there team, talk about spring practice and what they want to see out of their team in August leading up to the fall season. Predictions are made by the media, coaches downplay them and say that preseason accolades don't matter.
This year on the second day of Big 12 Media Days at the St. Anthony Hotel in San Antonio, the host city of this season's Big 12 conference championship game, Texas A&M head coach Dennis Franchione took the opposite approach. Instead of downplaying preseason mentions of who will win post-season awards before the season ever gets underway, Franchione pointed out a couple of Aggies that haven't seen their names in lights.
With the open forum with Franchione about to break up, and reporters preparing to scramble to talk with players Stephen McGee, Red Bryant and Chris Harrington, Franchione quickly jumped at the opportunity to keep everyone in their seats.
"Can I just say one more thing," Franchione declared. And reporters looked on with curiosity.
"It seems like so often preseason is when we have so much thought of who is going to be the post-season award winners," Franchione said.
