Practice Notebook: Up and down day for Aggies
Texas A&M returned to the practice fields Friday for two more practices as the Aggies prepare for their second scrimmage of August camp on Saturday. In the morning, head coach Mike Sherman wasn't pleased and let his team know it when he called a team meeting in the middle of the Coolidge Practice Fields half way through the morning session.
Receivers were dropping lots of balls and overall Sherman said he felt the team was sluggish. Coincidentally, it was the first day of practice after the team moved out of on-campus dorms.
"This morning I thought was a little sloppy," Sherman said. "Yesterday we let them out of the dorms and this morning they were a little sluggish for whatever reason. I thought they came back this afternoon and practiced well, but this morning wasn't good enough. This afternoon was pretty decent."
Saturday the Aggies will scrimmage on Kyle Field at 8:30 a.m. Originally the scrimmage was supposed to take place at 6 p.m., the time for A&M's kickoff with New Mexico on Sept. 5, but Sherman decided to change those plans in order for the team to spend the rest of Saturday in meetings and reviewing tape of the morning scrimmage.
But unlike last Sunday's scrimmage, this time the Aggies will also get scrimmage time in certain situations that the coaches will make up along the way.
"We're going to scrimmage but also have some game situations - goal line work, red zone work and specifically get into those areas to make sure we cover all those aspects of the game, backed up (against the goal line) - so it'll probably be more game situations," Sherman said. "Some scrimmage, but more game time situations and whatever does come up in the scrimmage we won't do separate but if we don't get some things done in the scrimmage then in the second half we'll put them in those situations."
The scrimmage at Kyle Field is open to the public.
