July 13, 2011This summer, Leeds (Ala.) High School's Javiere Mitchell has spent much of his time getting accustomed to his new position. In between his team workouts and drills, the defensive end-turned-linebacker has also managed to visit a few schools.
The 6-foot-2 and 205-pound Mitchell also has a couple more trips left on his plate as well.
"Playing linebacker is still a new position to me and I am trying to get as much experience as I can this summer," said Mitchell. "I am working with our linebackers' coach in workouts and just trying to get as many reps as I can.
"I haven't been to any camps recently but I have been to Mississippi State, Alabama and Auburn. It went well at all of those stops. I have a camp next week at Tennessee and then our team is going to team camps at Southern Miss and Jacksonville State this month, too."
Mitchell currently holds offers from MSU, Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Southern Miss, UAB and Arkansas State. And like his previous interviews, Mitchell said he doesn't have a clear favorite.
"I don't have any real favorites right now," said Mitchell. "I am probably being recruited the hardest by Mississippi State and Auburn, though. I like being around the players and coaches at Mississippi State and I feel at home there. I just like their football mentality they have there.
"And with Auburn, they have great tradition and they also have a great coaching staff. I also feel comfortable on their campus and they have great facilities, too."
And concerning his collegiate decision, Mitchell said his plans are to end his recruitment during his senior season at Leeds High School.
"As of right now I am still undecided about a favorite or even having a Top 3 or Top 5," said Mitchell. "But I would say going to these campuses and talking to all these coaches has brought me closer to a decision. But right now I plan to make my decision the first week of October."
Among those factors determining his decision, Mitchell noted education was tops on that list.
"Education is a big factor," said Mitchell. "I want to get an engineering degree and be a software engineer. And when I was at Mississippi State, I looked up their engineering classes and I am very interested in that field.
"I am also looking for that right feeling and find a place I know I will be comfortable at for the next four years. I am not too worried about location but I am looking also at campus environments."
