November 7, 2012The Texas A&M men's basketball season tips off this Friday night at Reed Arena when the Aggies host Louisiana Tech in the first game of the CBE Classic. Hear from Head Coach Billy Kennedy about the start of the season.
Where the team is defensively:
Coach Kennedy:We have got to do a better job containing the dribble penetration. Incarnate Word did a good job of getting in there and kicking it for threes, though fortunately they did not make a lot. We have got to get better fundamentally and protect the paint.
The development of Fabyon Harris:
Coach Kennedy:He can score, a lot. He is more of a combo scoring guard than he is a true point guard and he showed that he can score at a good level.
Coach Kennedy:Dash Harris was one of the best defenders in the conference and we lost him, so with the JUCO additions we have helped ourselves offensively, but we have got work on defense. The ball screens hurt us. We worked on that in the spring time but we have go to be able to carry it over to the game.
The latest with the Aggies post presence:
Coach Kennedy:We are rotating guys in and out and seeing who's going to be our most consistent post player. Kourtney is probably our most consistent guy. I know Ray Turner has it in him. He has experience. He is going to have to come through for us. We scored 97 points and we were running pretty good the other night, but we didn't get him the ball. His decision-making has got to better around the basket.
La Tech, the season opener:
Coach Kennedy:They shoot a lot of threes and they play small. It will kind of like playing Incarnate Word but at a higher level. We have to do better offensively. They play up-tempo and present some challenges you usually don't see this early. We have got five big guys and we hope we are able to use two of them to create an advantage, but we will use our guards if we have to.
