June 26, 2013As Texas A&M's fall camp draws closer, AggieYell.com will introduce each of the players who are arriving in College Station this summer. Next up: defensive back Victor Davis.
High School: Rosenberg Terry
Height/Weight: 6 feet, 180
2012 statistics: 4 INTs
Awards/Recognitions: 23-4A First Team All-District; 4A All-State Honorable Mention
Why the Aggies wanted him: When Davis committed at A&M's Feb. 18, 2012 junior day, the Aggies had already kicked off a search for fast, rangy defensive backs -- primarily at safety -- who could add athleticism to the secondary. In Davis, they got exactly that: a player with decent size who was also a track star, running a 4.55-second 40-yard dash. As it turned out, A&M could have gotten even more than what they hoped for in Davis, as he spent most of his senior year playing cornerback -- and playing it quite well. He arrives on campus with experience playing center field, manning up with receivers on the outside and defending in the slot.
The Aggies weren't the only ones impressed with Davis' skills; he also had offers from Alabama and Oklahoma State.
Likelihood of playing in 2013 (5 being probable starter, 1 being near-certain redshirt): 3. With the move of Floyd Raven to safety, A&M now has more of a need for corners than it does safeties. Davis could well be in the mix with Noel Ellis and Tavares Garner to break into the two-deep there; at any rate, a player with his size and speed should be able to contribute on special teams immediately.
