The 5-foot-10, 182-pound Ellis announced his decision on Twitter after narrowing his choices down to Iowa and Yale recently.
"Officially a Hawkeye," Ellis tweeted.
As a junior at Lovejoy High School in Lucas, TX, Ellis earned first team all-state honors after making 13 of 17 field goals last season with a long of 53 yards.
A veteran of Chris Sailer's national camps, Ellis is currently ranked No. 4 in the nation (Link: Rankings) by the kicking guru who expects big things from the Texas native at the college level.
"Mick is hands down one of the very best kickers in the nation," said Sailer. "He has a big leg and kicks with consistency and confidence. His field goals are top three in the nation and his kickoffs are top ten."
"What makes Mick special is his confidence," Sailer continued. "He is a well-trained, mature kicker that is ready right now for the next level. Look for Mick to make an immediate impact at Iowa and become an All-Conference, All-American type of kicker."
