July 22, 2013For the second consecutive year, AggieYell.com is marking the progress towards the start of fall camp with its 30 players in 30 days feature on the most important players to Texas A&M's success in 2013. The list continues with number 24, Germain Ifedi.
Position: Offensive guard
Classification: Redshirt freshman
Height/Weight: 6'5", 320 lbs.
Why he's on the list: During a redshirt season where he worked mostly at left tackle, Ifedi dropped weight from nearly 340 pounds to around 320 pounds by the time spring practice. Installed with the first-team offensive line during the first practice of the spring, Ifedi remained there as he used his impressive combination of size and strength to push around defensive linemen.
With Ifedi moving into the starting lineup, the Aggies now have two guards that weigh at least 320 pounds (along with Jarvis Harrison) and two athletic offensive tackles in Jake Mathews and Cedric Ogbuehi. The only question about Ifedi is how he will handle defensive linemen who are more experienced, as few will be stronger than he is. If he able to hold his own against upperclassmen this year, he'll be a starter for the next four seasons.
