July 23, 2013For the second consecutive year, AggieYell.com is marking the progress towards the start of fall camp with its 30 players in 30 days feature on the most important players to Texas A&M's success in 2013. The list continues with number 23, Drew Kaser.
Classification: Redshirt sophomore
Height/Weight: 6'3", 205 lbs.
2012 Statistics: redshirted
Why he's on the list: All you have to do is hear the ball come off Kaser's foot and you realize he has an absolute cannon for a leg. One of the two punts he's had in his career is evidence of that: it traveled 68 yards. Consistency has been his biggest issue, and his other punt is proof of that: it only went 23 yards.
Due to that lack of consistency, Kaser was beaten out by Ryan Epperson for the starting punting job each of the last two years. Epperson improved significantly in 2012, justifying the move, but he's now gone and Kaser is the unquestioned favorite for the starting job in his third season at A&M.
During the spring, Kaser showed more consistency than he had the previous two years, helping to tighten his grip on the starting job. If he does win it, the Aggies have a potential weapon that can flip field position on the occasions that the offense doesn't get the job done on their own. In the SEC West, giving opposing offenses long fields to deal with his an asset all its own.
