August 6, 2013Shorts and T shirts were the order of the day again.
Ivan Robinson was out there running and cutting. The objective for his return appears to be for Alabama. Taylor Bertolet, Kameron Miles, and Brandon Williams were held out again.
Joas Aguilar was AWOL and no one knows where he is. We'll be checking to find out more.
Of the quarterbacks, Johnny Manziel definitely looked the best, hitting deep outs that he struggled with last year. First time out, he hit Derel Walker on the numbers and everyone else overthrew theirs. After that, Matt Davis hit the rest of his passes. Kenny Hill got better the more he threw. Matt Joeckel's passes kind of floated.
Mark doesn't know if there was anything to this but Manziel was throwing to Mike Evans and Walker, Davis was throwing to Edwrad Pope and Sabian Holmes, Joeckel was throwing to Kyrion Parker and JaQuay Williams, and Hill was throwing to Neiderhofer and Sebastian Larue.
Last thing they did was that the receivers started running deep out routes driving the corner off at 18 yards and coming back to the ball at about 12 yards. Manziel hit his, Davis hit his, and Joeckel threw behind on his.
Ricky Seals Jones' route running is good. When he cuts, they are very sharp and he gets separation. He's not rounding anything off. Parker and Seals Jones have great hand eye coordination. Parker snagged a ball over his head that should have been incomplete.
Got a look at the offensive line Ogbuehi, Ifedi, Matthews, Harrison, Matthews are still first team as they were in the spring. Second team is Joseph Cheek, Shep Klinke, Ben Compton, Garrett Gramling, and Jeremiah Stuckey.
Kimo Tipoti was with the defense yesterday and he was with the offense today, probably due to the absence of Aguilar.
The difference between Daeshon Hall and Brandon Alexander is stark. They are about the same height and length but Hall is really quick and Alexander isn't a sudden twitch player.
Gavin Stansbury was good off the ball again today in drills. Hardreck Walker looked quick. His burst after breaking off the line of scrimmage was impressive. They are enamored with Isaiah Golden.
Running backs were on the far side of the field so they couldn't see much of them. Defensive backs were doing agility drills. Tavares Garner looked good moving. Victor Davis has some length to him. All three of the freshmen corners are really good athletes who could play.
Punters Drew Kaser boomed the ball consistently. Everything he hit was at least 50 yards with hang time.
Sabian Holmes and Quiv Gonzalez were taking the punts, which was interesting; Devante Harris was listed as the primary punt returner on the pre-camp two-deep.
Julien Obioha came over and said to tell everyone on the board to calm down, that he was out there yesterday in spite of rumors that he hadn't been. After taking the spring off to recover from surgery, Obioha looked back to his old self today.
