A look at the handful of uncommitted recruits
With only one week left in recruiting, Texas A&M hopes they will be able to finish strong and close out the class as high as number two in the nation. The problem with closing anywhere from second to fourth, it's not even the best in the SEC, much less your division. It's really important for A&M to finish strong and get the kids that they need and not be too distracted by players of less importance to the team's success. Last week, we listed seven names that A&M was seriously looking at. Since then, some things have changed but for the most part the list still remains the same. The players are listed from most important to least important.
Jenks (OK) safety Steven Parker
When you think about what might have been just a few months ago it was not unrealistic for A&M to land Parker and keep Dylan Sumner-Gardner a commit. Now A&M finds themselves in a battle with Oklahoma trying to get the top recruit out of the state. Right now, it's too close to call.
River Ridge (LA) outside linebacker Kenny Young
With Otaro Alaka's commitment to A&M, Young finds himself number two this week. UCLA thinks they've got a real good chance to land him. I think playing close to home and the SEC might be too much for Young to pass up and will choose A&M. If Young chooses A&M, then the Aggies really dogged a bullet after Hoza Scott went JUCO and missing out on Zach Whitley to UCLA.
River Ridge safety Mattrell McGraw
Even though he might be only a three star, A&M is that desperate for safeties and that puts McGraw ahead of Braden Smith. He will announce on signing day with teammate Kenny Young. Right now it looks likely it's A&M.
Olathe (KS) offensive guard Braden Smith
The massive offensive lineman would be a great addition to the class and seemed to have a fun time on his official according to reports. With a TCU visit this weekend, this one might be far from over. Smith is the type of kid that might just say blood is thicker than water and go with TCU on signing day.
Marrero (LA) running back Darrel Williams
Williams might be looking around after the commitment of Leonard Fournette to LSU earlier this month. He will visit A&M this weekend, but landing him seems like a really tough task. Likely will stick with LSU.
The best-case scenario is A&M hits the jackpot and lands Parker, Young, McGraw, and Smith. It's very important for A&M to at least get either Parker or McGraw.
