Fresh bump. What's the take on Atlas Sound's new album, "Terra Incognito?". Last year, Angelo Ag make a strong recco for Deer Hunter's "Halcyon Digest" whIch is one of my fav modern albums (solid rec). Atlas and Deer Hunter have the same front man (Bradford Cox). Just wondering.

And if you haven't heard any of Jose Gonzalez' stuff, you owe it to yourself. It's not '11, but I love his music and I wanted to bring some more chatter to this thread.

I've honestly been too damn busy with everything to be into new music as I've been in the past. It's nice to see folks getting into the singer-songwriter/"folk" (in the loosest sense) genre. For alt-country/No Depression guys, like myself, it's where I've been forever. Here are a handful of albums from 2011 that really stuck out to me:

Hayes Carll - KMAG YOYO - Hayes has always been underrated, imo, but there's not a better songwriter working right now. Great albums don't come around all that often, but this is one.

Buddy Miller - The Majestic Silver Strings - Not a big duets album fan, but hey, it's Buddy Miller.

Lucinda Williams - Blessed - Her best album since "Car Wheels On a Gravel Road." Awesome album.

Try with headphones and kinda loud. That's when it clicked for me, maybe because you can hear more of the subtleties of his music. I was walking around Seattle listening to For Emma, because some good Ag on AY recd it last year, and that's when I became a big fan. Give it a try.

I remembering listening to Skinny Love over and over and loving it. Every once in awhile I'd try to listen to the rest of the album and I just couldn't get into it at the time. Then one day, for some reason, I listened to Emma from beginning to end and was like whoa. I've been hooked ever since.

Mrs. HA said it best...when you hear the Bon Iver stuff, you have to picture an indie movie where some guy is out walking after finding out his girlfriend is dying from cancer and/or has decided to move out of their loft to go live with another chick. Pick a song, and that's playing as the background music as he's strolling around looking for a place to jump into the water.

I havne't seen Megafaun listed yet. These guys are the remnants of Deyarmond Edison, which was Justin Vernon's first big band (Vernon is the singer of Bon Iver. All of his groups sound like they should be someone's name, for some reason). If you want to go back to see where Indie first got going, go listen to the ST Deyarmond Edison album from 2004 or so I think, specifically My Whole Life Long.

Hendrex - Voodoo Child, maybe the best playing of all time, All along the watch tower
Ten Years After - I'd love the change the world
Ambrosia - Holding on to yesterday
Clapton - two Albums, August and Journeyman
Byrds - It won't be wrong, It will feel a whole lot better, etc.
Roy Orbison, Get the Black and White Night DVD, no one has a better voice
Tom Petty - any of it

I guess I've reached that age where I'm too old to get into NEW music. I just keep with the timeless classics.

The Who - like "most" by them although they did some songs that truly sucked..."Daddy's Got A Squeezebox" being one of them

Led Zeppelin - almost anything by them but "In The Evening" is probably my favorite Zeppelin tune.

Pink Floyd - again, almost anything by them. Legends.

Cheap Trick - Nothing they did was better than "Surrender"

The Cult - Had about 6 or 7 kickass songs...but they were truly kickass!

New Order - not classic rock but they were and always will be kickass to me.

Depeche Mode - (see New Order)
