Haha, that's awesome. Does your cuz actually listen to these groups or is he "that guy" that can only like bands no one has heard of that he saw in a club?

Most of those albums are from 2010, apparently. They were all on Spotify:

Finally got the internet back at my parents' place, so I'm trying to catch up from yesterday morning. The Spotify playlists that ISP put together are AWESOME.

I want to talk about the meltdown that KOL had this year in Dallas. I know the cool hipster thing to do is hate these guys now, but the album they put out last year was REALLY good. They are somewhat limited musically, but the progress they've made since Holy Roller Novacaine is impressive. These guys are still kids, but they've carved out a pretty good corner of the music world that both music people and the dumb masses can enjoy.

They are gone until sometime next year at the earliest, and I wonder how it will affect their art. Caleb had an obvious darkness in Come Around Sundown and I hope for their music's sake that he keeps that edge.

Artists in pain are the most brilliant of all.

Trying to go back thru my playlists and messages back and forth to BB during the last year. Couple of notes:

Portugal, the Man's follow up album, In Th Mountain, In The Cloud, SUCKED so bad, especially compared to their album from last year. So disappointing.

BB tuned me into an Austin group called Okkervil River. Lay of the Last Survivor off their new album is a great song, as is The Valley. Cool harmony by these guys. I'm actually surprised they haven't been listed so far.

If you don't mind faggoty skinnyjeans trios, then check out Smith Westerns. Weekend works pretty good. Very 60's garage band-ish.

Kurt Vile ain't the best singer, but he throws some sideways chords in on his songs. Good songwriter.

Pearl Jam fans should love Eddie Vedder's Ukulele Songs. I was amused and entertained, and I'm not a hardcore PJ fan. His voice has really stood up after all these years, but then again he's not screaming out Jeremy like he used to.

Gillian Welch did a doubleheader with The Decemberists on ACL this year and even sat in with them for a bit on a couple songs. They are doing a great job of getting new acts on these days. Gillian is a good singer, but could use a tit or two.

Someone listed Wye Oak, right? Can't remember. If not, it's listed now.

I wish I could find it, but someone sent me a video of an African guitar player. It wasn't in english, but it was BAD ASS. Incredible guitar player. I'll keep looking, but if anyone knows what I'm talking about, post it. EDIT: I found it. His name is Bombino, and the album is Agadez. Can't understand a word, but the music is incredible. I think it's from a documentary or something. Here's a trailer for it

HA, if you like Kurt Vile, check out his old band The War On Drugs. Their album Slave Ambient probably would've made my list but I've only recently gotten into it. Kind of similar to Kurt Vile but a little more upbeat

Mastodon - Deathbound My favorite metal band incites puppet mayhem and carnage.


Destroyer - Kaputt Dan Bejar and company bring the strange.


Real Estate - Its Real As charming and comforting as the rest of the album.


Tyler The Creator - Yonkers Uh... yeah.
