Up-close with Skyline coaches and players

Dallas Skyline is loaded with talent and college programs have taken notice, including Texas A&M. The Aggies have secured 2012 wide receiver Thomas Johnson and have a solid verbal from 2013 defensive tackle Kerrick Huggins, but the Aggies are not stopping there. Skyline assistant coach Jason Garrett answers questions about some of the A&M commits and targets on the Skyline roster. And 2014 cornerback Cedric Collins joins AggieYell in an exclusive video interview.

(Courtney) What kind of player are the Aggies getting in Thomas Johnson?
(Garrett) "He is a very explosive player. He is a dynamic player; he can throw the ball, run the ball, return punts and return kickoffs. In a certain situation last year we put him in on safety. He was a player who made plays for us. He is a game-changer. As a receiver he is very efficient in route running. He is one of those kids that can be a multiple threat down the field, you can line him up at slot and he can catch balls in between lineman and linebackers. He is not afraid to take the heat. He is a very skilled young man."

(C) What has Johnson been doing this spring before he moves to College Station?
(G) "Most of the seniors do their own workout. As soon as football ended he did join the track team to keep in shape and keep his speed up. He ran the 100-meter dash and the 4x200-meter relay. He also did long jump and was the best in the area."

(C) How close are Johnson and Kerrick Huggins?
(G) "They keep a close relationship. I know it was one of the final deciding factors when Huggins committed to A&M."

(C) How is Huggins looking this spring?
(G) "He is doing real well. Even though he is already committed, we still have to fight off a lot of big time BCS schools that are whispering in his ear. He said he is an Aggie. And out at practice he is doing really well. Last year was his first year as a defensive lineman and I think now he really understands and has under control what we are trying to do on defense?"

(C) How solid is Huggins commitment?
(G) "He is solid to A&M. When he committed I told him he has to be true to his word, and that it is like a relationship with a girl. You and your girlfriend want to be honest and upfront with each other and there is no going behind each other's backs or cheating. He understands that and is very mature in his decision."

(C) Have the A&M coaches been out to spring practice?
(G) "Coach (David) Beaty and Coach (Matt) Wallerstedt came out last week to check on Thomas and Huggins and they were looking at 2013 linebacker Isaiah Williams. He is under the radar. The defensive coordinator (Mark Snyder) and Coach (David) Beaty will be out here next week to take another look at him."

(C) Where do Devante Kincade and Ra'Shaad Samples stand in the recruiting process?
(G) "Kincade has just blown up. But both guys are open right now. Devante is pretty much wide open right now in the process and A&M is definitely in Ra'Shaad's top five schools."

(C) When would Ra'Shaad like to make his decision?
(G) "I have an idea but I can't really say any information right now. More than likely before the season or sometime close to that."

(C) What are some of the reasons Ra'Shaad is waiting to make his commitment?
(G) "I really do not know. He has offers from all over. It is not a particular school but it is finding the right fit offensively and scheme wise. He is going to fit into a spread type of offense."

(C) How do you believe Samples fits into the Aggies offense?
(G) "Coach Beaty said he could see him fitting in at the slot position and Samples is very excited about that."

(C) How will Samples narrow it down to one?
(G) "He has offers from all over the place so he really has not given any indication as to how he will choose. I don't think it is about a specific conference. I know at the start he really liked Cal so he is open I believe to travel. But I also know that A&M is up there. And he does have family there in College Statin. He had one sister already graduate from A&M and he has another sister attending A&M now."

(C) Has Samples thought about taking official visits?
(G) "Official visits, not a clue. He has not even really talked about it. That injury on his ankle really set him back visit wise."

(C) How are Huggins, Samples, Kincade and Collins' grades?
(G) "All of these guys are top guys and are qualifiers. A lot of them have a 3.0 GPA."
