Future Forecast: QB Cord Sandberg
When Cord Sandberg picked up an offer from Auburn last year, the Tigers became the early favorite, but after an impressive summer, the Florida quarterback is looking for more offers, including one from the University of Alabama.
The 2013 signal caller, who already has scholarship offers from Auburn, Cincinnati, Clemson, Iowa State and Western Kentucky, believes that Alabama and a number of other schools may be on the verge of offering.
"I'm pretty sure Alabama is close to offering me," Sandberg said. "USF may offer me. When I went to Florida, they seemed pretty interested. We'll see how it plays out when Sep. 1 rolls around. We'll see who's all going to offer."
Sandberg opened some eyes this summer when he and his teammates from Manatee High School took a road trip to participate in camps at Alabama, Auburn, Florida State and Tennessee.
At the Crimson Tide's camp, Sandberg worked with offensive quality control assistant Billy Napier and also got a chance to throw in front of UA offensive coordinator Jim McElwain along with a handful of other quarterbacks.
"I thought it went pretty well," Sandberg said. "We threw a little bit. Coach Napier was just talking to us about different things like basic steps from under center. All in all, it was pretty good."
The group from Florida arrived in Tuscaloosa the day before where they got a chance to tour some of the facilities, including the weight room and locker rooms.
"I like it a lot," Sandberg said. "I think they said that Alabama has the biggest weight room, and I believe it because it was huge. It was the biggest I've seen. The weight room was nice. It was nice how the practice field was right next to the locker room and weight room. It's pretty compact. It's all pretty close together, which is nice."
After the camp, the UA staff reached out to Sandberg and expressed their interest in both he and his teammate, Anthony Lauro, a 2013 running back.
This is the fourth and final part of a series featuring potential quarterback targets for Alabama in the 2013 class.
