Florida back lands big offer

Big offers are becoming the norm for St. Petersburg (Fla.) Catholic junior running back Ryan Green. The 5-foot-10, 195-pound speedster has already racked up an impressive offer list and one of the latest to extend a verbal tender is Ohio State. The Buckeyes came through with the offer on Sunday evening according Vader Green, the Father of the electric runner.
"They offered yesterday (Sunday)," said Mr. Green. "Mark (Pantoni) was at Florida and he left there to go to Ohio State. We've kept in contact with Mark and I sent Mark an e-mail saying that I just wanted to know what was going on up at Ohio State. He told me to give him a call and that Urban Meyer wants to speak with us. So Ryan came out from working out and we gave him a call and I talked to Urban Meyer first and he had great things to say about Ryan, that he's a great kid and a great athlete and he wants to take that Florida speed up there. Then I put Ryan on and he gave Ryan the offer over the phone"
With the offer, Ohio State joins some of the nation's other heavy hitters on an ever-growing list. Green already holds verbal offers from the likes of Florida, Florida State, Kentucky, Miami (FL), Notre Dame, Purdue, and South Florida.
"I thought it was great," Green said of the Ohio State offer. "He likes Urban Meyer from his Florida days so he likes him as a coach. We were excited to get that offer. Ohio State is definitely in the mix, no doubt. We're looking for a great coach and a great program."
Another school from the Midwest has also made a big early impression on Green.
"Notre Dame is definitely high on his list as well," he said. "We went to a game against Air Force and Ryan loved the atmosphere and the tradition of the school itself. He just felt at home when he was there."
With an offer list approaching double digits, things don't seem to be slowing down any time soon as new schools enter the mix almost daily.
"He's got some more schools (showing interest)," Green added. "I talked to Boston College and they're supposed to come down to the school, South Carolina as well. There's been a whole bunch of (college coaches) coming by the school."
Green and his family are still in the evaluation process as they are soaking up as much knowledge about each school as possible.
"It's great," Green said of the early offers. "We'll evaluate the best fit for Ryan and what's best for him with his input, but we're looking for a program that can accommodate him academically and as far as his skill level. I'm not saying that he's looking to get on the field right now but he doesn't want to sit for two or three years."
Green is spending his winter on the basketball floor where he is currently second in the country in scoring. A true three-sport star, Green is also the defending district champion in the 100-meter dash.
