Long journey paying off for Combs

It has been a long journey for Marquel Combs to reach this point.

The 6-foot-3, 305-pound defensive tackle is at his third school is two years since graduating high school but has now put himself in position to reach his goal of playing Division I college football.

"I wasn't a qualifier out of high school and only played one year of high school ball," Combs said. "After I graduated high school I went to prep school at North Georgia College Prep. We found out it was not accredited so I decided to leave and went to Fort Scott in Kansas and was only there for spring semester. I left this summer after a coaching change and came out to California and it turned out to be a good deal."

It certainly has paid off for the Pierce Community College standout having already received offers from Arizona, Arkansas, Florida International, Kansas State, Memphis, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Pittsburgh, Tennessee, Texas Tech and Utah.

"I really wasn't expecting all these offers out of nowhere," Combs said. "I'm just very happy that I get a chance to enjoy this process. I'm just enjoying the whole process right now and just soaking it all in."

With his list continuing to grow and an expected early graduate in December, Combs is not yet ready to begin narrowing his choices.
