Rebels land Rivals250 defensive tackle

Christopher Robinson has never been to Ole Miss.

He won't visit the school until April 20, a day before the Rebels' annual Grove Bowl spring game.

However, on Thursday, the Rivals250 defensive tackle from Shreveport (Woodlawn), La., committed to the Rebels, picking them over an offer from Mississippi State and interest from a host of others.

"You don't hear that much about violence there," Robinson said. "I like the town. I like the D-line coach (Chris Kiffin). He's a real good person.

"They think I can be the best for them. They've seen my highlight tape and they love it."

The 6-foot-2, 270-pounder said he's through with recruiting regardless of what other offers come his way. Robinson is ranked by Rivals.com as the nation's No. 13 defensive tackle and the nation's No. 229 overall prospect.

""I'm going to stay loyal to them," Robinson said. "I'm glad to have it over with. A lot of colleges are calling. I get more letters than my school.

"One of my teammates at school, (cornerback) Richard Bell, he's a really good player. I'm going to try to get him to come with me."

Instead, Robinson plans to focus on his game, hoping he can make an immediate impact in Oxford next September.

"My strengths are stopping up the middle," Robinson said. "I'm a land-stopper. I want to improve on my speed and my technique and I want to react more quickly and faster.

"I'm going to try to turn it around. I'm going to work my heart out when I'm down there at Ole Miss."

Robinson said he's looking forward to his upcoming trip to his future home.

"I want to look at the environment at the school, how the players are with one another," Robinson said. "They treat everybody like family. I just want to get to know the coaches and see how their academics are."
