UGA 'heavy' on Parrish's mind

Brooks County defensive back Malkom Parrish may be tucked away in the small South Georgia town of Quitman, but that hasn't stopped his recruitment from catching fire recently.

The 5-foot-10, 190-pound prospect plays quarterback and defensive back for the Trojans, but despite his versatility and play making ability, Parrish admits that, until recently, he was worried that his talents were going unnoticed.

"Right now it is going great," Parrish said of his recruitment. "At first I was kind of nervous that no one was looking at me. As of right now, everything is going well. I'm really excited about the recruiting process."

Three offers were extended to the rising senior on Wednesday, and the first came from the Georgia Bulldogs.

"My coach texted me to call Coach (Mike) Bobo," he said. "He was telling me everything and how they really liked me and how they were going to recruit me. Then he offered me. I almost couldn't believe it. I was so happy."

The UGA offensive coordinator, who recruits most of South Georgia for the Bulldogs, went on to explain why the offer was being given.

"He told me that I have great hips, and that he likes the way I'm very physical," Parrish said. "He told me that anyone that could play both sides of the ball, especially quarterback, is a tough guy and he really likes that."

Parrish says that he moved to Quitman approximately five years ago because his mother wanted to raise him in more of a quiet, small-town environment so he isn't as familiar with the Georgia programs as prospects who grew up in the Peach State.

That, however, doesn't matter as Parrish considers himself a fan of the Bulldogs.

"I don't really know too much about the Georgia program, but I know that when I first moved here, everyone was talking about Georgia," he said. "I guess I was on the bandwagon at first. A couple of years back, I really started watching Georgia and started liking them. Now I'm a big fan of them."

Georgia Tech and Kentucky also offered Parrish on Wednesday, and with the process just really starting for the versatile prospect, he isn't in any hurry at this time.

"Right now I don't know about any decisions," he said. "I'm open-minded right now. I'm just waiting. I'm very patient about the situation. I'm not going to let it get into my head. I'm going to stay in my books for now, and just wait until the time comes."

Parrish says that he has no leaders at this time but admits that his first offer is one that has definitely caught his attention.

"Right now it (the UGA offer) is heavy on my mind," Parrish said. "Of course I like Georgia. They are a great team. They are certainly at the top of my list."
