Sorrell ready for camps

One of the prospects that several colleges are looking forward to having on campus this month is Chance Sorrell of Middletown High School in Ohio. SpartanMag.com was able to catch up with the 6-foot-6, 250-poihnd prospect and get the latest details on his recruitment.

Earlier this spring Sorrell attended the Rivals Camp Series in Cincinnati and was cited as one of the the top ten overall performers at the event. Rivals.com Midwest Analyst Josh Helmholdt had the following to say about his performance.

"While he does most of his damage on the football field, it is clear Sorrell probably causes fits on the hardwood as well. He looked like a power forward boxing out defenders to get open and make catches on Sunday. Along to go with strength and a little bit of toughness, Sorrell has the size that most programs are looking for in a tight end."

Though he is listed as a tight end in the Rivals.com database, most teams see Sorrell as filling out and playing offensive tackle at the next level. For that reason, Sorrell is making the rounds this month so he can showcase his skills. Michigan State is one of the schools where he will attend camp. We asked Sorrell about his camp schedule.

"I went to Tennessee last weekend for Line Camp and they are evaluating," he stated. "I felt very good about my performance. I have Ohio State, Nebraska and Michigan State. Many others are asking me to come but we'll have to see what we want to do."

It is possible that if one of those heavyweight programs offers Sorrell a scholarship he could make a summer time decision. We asked Sorrell what are some of the factors he is looking for when it comes to selecting a college.

"I want a school that has prestige and tradition," he said. "I want to make sure I fit in with the players and the scheme they run. I also want to go to a school that can win championships."

As far as other teams in the mix, Sorrell has a solid list of suitors. He updated us on the schools that have presently offered.

"Louisville is my most recent offer, he said. I also have offers from Boston College, Indiana, West Virginia, Cincinnati, Vanderbilt, Bowling Green, Kent state and Ohio University."

Michigan State will be holding several sessions of camp over the next two weeks and numerous top prospects will be participating. The Spartans staff will certainly be anxious to see how well Sorrell performs. As has been the case in the past, a strong camp performance often leads to a scholarship offer. SpartanMag.com will be sure to follow-up with Sorrell shortly afterwards.

SpartanMag.com's Take: We have compared Sorrell to current Spartan offensive tackle Dan France. France camped at Michigan State back in 2008 at about the exact same size as Sorrell. France made the switch to offensive line in college and will be a 3-year starter this fall.
