Ellis excited about the future

When Texas kicker Mick Ellis committed to the Hawkeyes a couple weeks ago, he still had yet to see the campus in Iowa City. That visit finally came this weekend for the 5-foot-10, 182-pound Ellis, who says now he is even more excited to play college football at Iowa. We caught up with the Texas native to get his thoughts on his future surroundings and much more.

Q: What all did you get to do at Iowa this weekend?

ELLIS: Well, when we got there, first my family and I got to go see the campus just looking at exactly what we wanted to see basically. Then we went out with Mike Meyer, the current kicker, and some other prospects and players and all of the coaches except for the head coach, who we met the next morning. After that, we got the whole tour of the campus and the football facilities and saw some of the new facilities too. Then we met with the coaches again and had a barbecue. It was a really good time.

Q: What did you kind of take away from meeting Mike Meyer? What did he say about his experience?

ELLIS: Well, you know, he as kind of telling me how you will hear a lot of noise, good or bad, but regardless of what it is, you have to ignore it. That was kind of the main message I took away from him. If you miss a kick you are everyone's worst enemy, if you make the kick you are everyone's best friend, but you have to just kind of ignore all of that.
