After a long, grueling Summer of AAU ball with Team United, word is spreading fast about Charlotte (NC) West Charlotte big man Kennedy Meeks.
Meeks' first scholarship offer came from South Carolina in July. On Tuesday, he took an unofficial visit to USC along with his AAU teammate Sinderius Thornwell (2013 class).
"I liked it a lot," the Tarheel State prospect told GamecockCentral.com. "The atmosphere was great. I enjoyed being on a college campus and enjoyed the whole college environment."
When asked what stood out most on his visit, Meeks immediately mentioned the coaching staff at USC.
"I really like the coaches," he said. "They are interested in what's best for their players. They really care about you and want to make sure you get a good education."
On his tour around campus, one facility in particular caught the eye of the West Charlotte standout.
"The Dodie student center is real nice. It's brand new. You can tell how important education is at South Carolina by that building."
As far as his plans for the Fall, Meeks said he will definitely return to Columbia.
"I'm going to come back down there for a football game for sure," he said. "I want to meet the players on the team (basketball) because I didn't get to do that this time, and I want to check out the atmosphere when everybody is in town."
Meeks is looking forward to an expanded role at West Charlotte this year. The 6-foot-8 big man has trimmed down nearly twenty pounds over the summer in order to get in better shape for the coming season, and college scouts have taken notice.
"This past month my coach said he's heard from FSU, Georgetown, Wake Forest, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, Marquette, and Clemson," he said.
There are five schools holding the 2013 prospect's interest at the moment.
"My favorite schools right now are Georgetown, South Carolina, North Carolina, Duke and Syracuse."
