Robinson twins will look around
Tyree Robinson says he and his twin brother Tyrell Robinson won't de-commit from Oregon … yet. Their time as rock-solid Ducks, however, is over.Four-star athlete
The news of head coach Chip Kelly's departure for the NFL floored both Robinsons on Wednesday afternoon, but not enough to cause a broken pledge.
Instead, the two-sport stars will simply take a good, hard look around, and just minutes after the story broke, targets for the first few glances had already been set.
"We're going to open it back up and check out other schools," Tyree Robinson said. "It's crazy. It's just really crazy. I'm just going to open it back up to see what schools come back to see me and my brother. USC and Notre Dame are the only two schools I really have in mind right now, but there will be others."
According to Tyree Robinson, it's "hard to say" which other programs will get involved now that he and his brother are once again open to contact. In-depth evaluations will come later. For now, the prevailing reaction is simple shock.
And for good reason.
Oregon assistant John Neal stopped into San Diego's Lincoln High School on Tuesday to touch base with the twins. At that time, everything was in place. Both Tyree and Tyrell were locked into playing for Neal and Kelly next season. But less than one day later … boom -- a harsh reminder of life in the business of college football.
"This is crazy. I mean, [Neal] was just here yesterday up at school to watch me and my brother play basketball," Tyree Robinson said. "Everything was all good. Everything was all fine. It's crazy. Right now, I have to talk to my family. I'm going to call my mom right now to talk to her about it.
Tyree and Tyrell Robinson committed to Oregon in September of last year. Each lists 18 scholarship offers in total. Tyrell Robinson is listed as the No. 132 player in America, while Tyree clocks in at No. 142.
Both players are listed as athletes and are seen as high-level college basketball prospects as well. Tyree Robinson projects as a defensive back. Tyrell is likely to line up at linebacker in college.
Tyrell Robinson could not immediately be reached for comment.
