Recruiting notebook: should A&M root for Texas for once?
Jamal Adams the race for Adams is likely a three horse race with Florida, LSU, and Texas. It's likely that Florida is still the favorite for Adams, but it would be helpful for A&M fans if Adams went to Texas. With a nearly full class, Adams to Texas could help A&M land the likes of Arlington Bowie 2014 safety/outside linebacker Edwin Freeman. Texas really needs Adams and A&M really needs Freeman so I think both parties would be happy. One of the top uncommitted targets in Texas is Hebron safety
The commitment of Du'Vonta Lampkin to Oklahoma is no big surprise at all. Lampkin really wanted an offer from Texas A&M, but the offer simply was not going to show up anytime soon. A&M is also in a position where they don't need to load up on defensive tackles in the 2015 class. It's likely A&M will take Daylon Mack and will not offer anybody else at defensive tackle unless one player completely comes out of nowhere.
A new name to keep an eye out for is Corona (CA) wide receiver Barry Ware. The six foot, three inch, 200-pound receiver has been contacted by A&M and Oregon ever since his offer was declared invalid by UCLA. It will be interesting to see if A&M offers and gets him down on an official visit what could happen.
Finally, there's A&M's newest offer, Olathe (KS) outside linebacker Jimmie Swain. If you look at similar linebackers over on the right side of his profile page, you will see a familiar face. Swain has the body size to play in the SEC, only concern for recruiting purposes is did A&M offer too late. Swain is committed to TCU, but he is looking around with officials to Oregon and Michigan State officials likely planned, A&M will be in a uphill battle for Swain. After the offer though, Swain has quickly become likely one of the most important recruits on the recruiting board for 2014 after the Hoza Scott situation and the problems with the current linebacker group this season.
