There are only two weeks of recruiting left before National Signing Day and the Texas A&M coaches still stand at one linebacker commitment for the 2016 recruiting class. The coaches have offered and targeted several prospects throughout the year, but are now showing renewed interest in a Houston-area linebacker who plans to visit this weekend.

Missouri City (Texas) Hightower outside linebacker Clifton Lewis, a former TCU commitment, is back on the market and will officially visit College Station this weekend.

Before the holidays, Lewis announced his decision to reopen his recruitment and break his longtime commitment to TCU. Over the break, the A&M coaches touched base and things got started from there.

"Coach (Clarence) McKinney is my area recruiter from Texas A&M and we have been talking since last spring," Lewis said. "We talk almost every day and have for a while now, but I had been committed to TCU since last spring and the interest level did fall for a while.

"They asked me to visit this weekend and I'm looking forward to seeing everything at A&M this weekend. Coach McKinney recently introduced me to Coach (John) Chavis and he's a great defensive coordinator. He develops players very well and gets them to the next level. That is the type of coach that I would like to have at the next level."

The Texas A&M coaches have not offered Lewis at this point, but the standout prospect believes an offer from the Aggies will come during the official visit this weekend.

"No, they have not offered yet," Lewis said. "I believe the coaches will offer this weekend. The coaches wanted me to come visit, see the program, and talk with me a little more before making an offer."

Lewis is friends with one of the Texas A&M commitments for the 2016 class, C.E. King (Texas) running back Trayveon Williams.

"Trayveon (Williams) and I are close," Lewis said. "We talk about A&M and he's already up there. We knew one another from playing here in Houston and our time committed to TCU together this year, but I know he really likes it up there. It's only been a week, but I'm sure we will spend some time together this next weekend and he can show me around."

Rated a three-star prospect, the 6-foot-2, 225-pound linebacker is also hearing from Missouri, SMU, and Oklahoma State lately. He earned District 23-6A All-District First Team Defense and APSE Class 6A All-State Defensive honorable mention honors this past season.
