Keondre Coburn Talks Coaching Changes & Rrecruiting

2018 four-star defensive tackle Keondre Coburn spent his Christmas break working out with Doug Smith, alongside Marvin Wilson and other top Houston area prospects.

“Those workouts were me trying to get better, get in shape and be ready to go for the Spring season,” said Coburn. “Doug and working out with other hungry prospects helps me prepare for the long haul.. for spring camp and next season.”

Other than workouts, the 6-foot-2, 305-pound prospect was watching the college football bowl games and waiting to see where certain coaches landed; in particular his coach at Westfield, A.J. Blum.

“I didn’t want my coach to leave, but I understand why he did,” said Coburn.

Blum was hired by the University of Houston on December 22nd to be the Cougars defensive line coach.

“My coach being hired at Houston I would say yea kind of impacts be, because thats my coach,” said Coburn. “It’s my coach who has been coaching me since my freshman year.. you know you never want to leave your coach, but yeah.”

Houston offering Coburn early on in the process and now having his former coach does help the Cougars, but can they compete to other big college football programs close by…like Texas A&M for example?

They can compete for sure, but the Aggies have been hard on Coburn recruiting him since day one as well.

“Texas A&M that’s a school that hits me up everyday,” said Coburn. “I like it, because they are always showing me love.”

The attention the Aggies are showing Coburn definitely helps in his recruitment, but especially as he prepares for his senior campaign he is also looking at the college itself as well as the defense the program has to offer.

“m thinking about do I fit in the system,” said Coburn. “I ask myself ‘do i fit in this area?’ A&M’s recruiting class this year is amazing, and I am looking at all of that.”
