Koda Martin 1-on-1 with AY at SECMD17

Texas A&M senior offensive tackle Koda Martin talks one-on-one with AggieYell at SEC Media Days 2017 about the Aggies quarterback battle and the leadership on the team after the loss of some key players like Myles Garrett and Trevor Knight.

Quotes from Koda Martin at SECMD17:

On hearing the talk of Coach Sumlin being on the hot seat this year…

“You know that is really not a lot of my concern. I just know that I love Coach Sumlin, I love the program he has put together, and I love the staff that he has put together. I believe that he is doing everything he can to make sure we are going to win. We have been getting after it this summer, we have a new strength staff that is doing a lot to help us prepare. There is a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes that people just don’t see.”

On the atmosphere of Kyle Field…

“It’s ridiculous. I remember sitting the locker room before my first game of my freshman year and someone cracked the door and I heard the stands chanting ‘A-G-G-I-E-S’ and man, I just got goose bumps. I mean they just cracked the door, and I could hear one hundred and four thousand people just chanting at us. So to run out of the tunnel in front of those people and they are die hard just like most of the teams in the SEC, but the 12th man is something special and something awesome to be a part of. I love every second of running out on the field and getting to play for the 12th Man. It’s awesome.”

On Coach Turner’s marine core service and how it translates to the team…

“He’s awesome, he really holds us to a high standard just like you would expect a military guy to. He’s awesome and has really, really helped our offensive line take it to the next level. I love that coach and I would do anything for him.”

On the benefit of the young guys getting a lot of experience last year going into this year…

“We have a lot of young guys with a lot of experience especially on the offensive line. We were really young last year so that gave some guys the opportunity to step up and to really fill those roles. Those guys are leaders now and know how it works. The offseason has been awesome alongside those guys being able to really work hard and know what it takes to be great.”

On if there is pressure being moved to left tackle with an inexperienced quarterback…

“Pressure is something you put on yourself. As a coaches kid that’s what my dad tells me and I just try to take it in stride. The standard is high, the standard is winning no matter what position you’re at so I wouldn’t say there is pressure. I will do whatever it takes to help my team win and I am looking forward to getting after it this season.”
