Monday Recruiting Notebook

Here's a quick look back at some of the major headlines from a busy weekend on the recruiting front for Texas A&M:
Aggies add a 2014 DE: It's been nearly two months since Katy Seven Lakes DE Jarrett Johnson put Texas A&M ahead of Texas on his list of favorites. Since then, the lead has only grown, and on Sunday the talented rush end decided to commit.

Johnson told AggieYell.com earlier that the atmosphere at Friday Night Lights had trumped that of Texas' spring game and had helped vault the Aggies into the lead. He also said he felt comfortable with the Aggies' defensive scheme.
"At A&M though I noticed how they pretty much do all the same things at my high school," he said. "I also noticed how Damontre Moore, my game is kind of similar to his in the way he uses his length to get across the face of offensive tackles and uses his agility and speed to get around people. I noticed we kind of looked the same while we play so I feel I can fit into A&M's scheme."
Johnson was scheduled to camp at both Texas and A&M this weekend, but only made it to Austin. That, apparently, was enough for him to settle on the Aggies and become the 11th member of the 2014 recruiting class. He probably won't be the last defensive end the Aggies add -- the remain in good standing with fellow rush ends Myles Garrett and Qualen Cunningham and are in pursuit of top defensive ends Gerald Willis III and Davon Godchaux.
Aggies send out new offers: Texas A&M used the weekend to send out three new offers, one to a 2014 prospect and two to a pair of members of the 2015 class.
The first went out to Van Alstyne offensive lineman Connor Mayes, who can play both center and guard. The 6 foot, 5 inch, 330 pound Mayes currently holds 20 offers, but A&M is the first SEC school to offer the three-star prospect. His list, however, is still impressive: Oklahoma, TCU and Kansas State are three schools who have already offered.
The second went out to an even bigger offensive lineman: Shreveport Evangel Christian's Jerry Tillery. The 6 foot, 7 inch, 332 pound Tillery is a member of the class of 2015, but intends to graduate early in order to attend spring practice at whatever school he chooses. Tillery appeared to be leaning heavily towards Stanford recently, but the Aggies' offer appears to have changed the equation at least a little. He now plans on visiting A&M, Stanford and Notre Dame over the summer.
The third offer was extended to another 2015 prospect who had a highly productive weekend. After camping at both Texas and A&M, Cy-Falls WR Kemah Siverand went home with offers from both. The 6 foot, 183 pound Siverand had no offers previously, but now has two from the state's two biggest powers.
Camp notes: Houston Kinkaid's duo of QB JT Granato and Mavin Saunders made the trip to College Station Sunday for A&M's camp and came away with differing experiences. Granato, a 2015 prospect, put forth a solid showing and said he should know about the possibility of an Aggie offer in a couple of weeks; Saunders, a 2014 prospect who could be both a receiver or tight end, hurt both of his hamstrings during the camp. The severity of the injuries wasn't clear as of Sunday night.
Outside of the Kinkaid duo, there was plenty of talent and a ton of speed at the A&M camp. Fort Bend Marshall 2015 CB Kendall Sheffield, who already holds offers from the Aggies, Florida, Notre Dame and LSU, was one of the headliners. Splendora RB
Jay Bradford, a 2015 prospect, wasn't a headliner coming in but was by the end of the day after blasting a 40-yard dash in the neighborhood of 4.3 seconds.
Dallas Skyline 2015 inside linebacker Anthony Wheeler who was offered by A&M a few days ago, ran a 4.7 second 40; 2016 running back Kameron Martin of Port Arthur Memorial ran a 4.45 40. That's impressive, but Leander Rouse RB Billy McCrary III ripped off a 4.35.
