Blumrick ready for his senior season

Connor Blumrick

Pearland pro-style quarterback Connor Blumrick committed to Texas A&M in late May only days after receiving an offer from the Aggies' coaching staff. A few months later, Blumrick is still very excited about his decision and remains strong in his commitment.

"I'm still 100% devoted to Texas A&M," Blumrick said. "The coaches have been so great to me and we have a great relationship. I talk with Coach (Noel) Mazzone and Coach (Taylor) Mazzone at least 2-3 times a week.

"I expect to see good things out of the offense at A&M this season. Coach Mazzone is very good with bigger quarterbacks like Trevor Knight and guys like me. They do a lot of zone-read and pass variations, it's actually very similar to what we do on offense here at Pearland."

Using the term 'bigger quarterback' to describe Blumrick would be an understatement. At 6-foot-6, 212-pounds, the standout prospect already has the frame to compete at the next level and stood out on the Pearland practice fields.

A relatively unknown recruit only 4-5 months ago, Blumrick competed at several camps this off-season and earned an invitation to the Elite 11 competition in California this summer - an invite-only camp that included 22 of the top quarterback prospects selected from across the country.

The experience helped him to see the game a little differently and helped him to begin preparation for the upcoming season.

"Getting to compete at the Elite 11 definitely helped me to grow as a quarterback," Blumrick said. "It was about more than the on-field details, but also about the mental aspect of the game. I learned to keep my head forward and not behind me, just to focus on the team's success.

"My focus now is to worry about others and not myself. I'm focused on the guys around me and doing what I can to help them get better. It's been a really good off-season, we have worked hard together and grew as a team. We have been mostly growing together as one unit, not individuals, and getting everyone on the same page moving into the season opener."

Blumrick also shared his thoughts on the current quarterback situation at Texas A&M and being one of two quarterback commitments in this 2017 recruiting class.

"After Trevor (Knight) plays this next season, then the quarterback job is going to be open," Blumrick said. "I'm really excited about it, just to get in there and make the most of an opportunity to work hard and see what happens. There is competition at every college program and I'm looking forward to that because it can only make me a better quarterback."

On the recruiting front, Blumrick continues to build relationships with the other commitments and is trying to help land a couple of other targets for the 2017 class.

"We are all close and we have a group text," Blumrick said. "I was at the BBQ and spent a lot of time with Roshauud (Paul), Devin (Morris), and Adrian (Wolford). I know we lost some guys, but our class is still very strong. I have been talking with Anthony Hines a lot recently and really any other guys we are trying to get.

"We just landed Hezekiah (Jones) and I'm very excited about that. He's a great athlete, a play maker, and another big addition for our recruiting class. We are all planning to attend the game against Tennessee on October 8th as a group."

Rated a 5.6 three-star prospect, Blumrick is the No. 18 overall pro-style quarterback prospect in the nation. He finished with 1,478 yards, 13 touchdowns, and six (6) interceptions passing along with 263 yards rushing - earning District 22-6A All-District First Team Offense honors this past season.

Blumrick chose the Aggies over offers from Ole Miss, East Carolina, Memphis, Texas State, and UCF.
