The dismissal of former Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin seemed like a forgone conclusion once the game ended in Baton Rouge last weekend.

While rumors of new coaching options like Jimbo Fisher continue to swirl, most of the current 2018 commitments continue to wait just like most of the fans.

Fort Bend Marshall offensive guard Barton Clement shared his thoughts on Sumlin's departure and what is next for him.

"I had a really great relationship with Coach Sumlin and believed in what he was doing at A&M," Clement said. "I know it is a business and these things happen, but I was sad to see him let go. Right now, I'm solid with Texas A&M and I'm still talking with Coach (Jim) Turner and Coach (Clarence) McKinney.

"I mean, if the new coach comes in and the entire staff is let go, then I will have to look at other options while they hire a new staff. There just isn't a lot of time left and I want to see what happens with the next hire. I'm not talking with other programs right now, but my coaches are taking calls and seeing which programs are still interested."

The four-star prospect also shared his thoughts on the potential of current Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher taking over at Texas A&M.

"I have seen the rumors, and there are probably a lot of coaching options they have, but I cannot control any of that," Barton said. "I'm just going to continue speaking with the coaches and see what happens next. But I'm not sure, I don't know a lot about Jimbo Fisher or how he could work at A&M, it's something that I would have to think about."

Clement was trying to graduate early and enroll in January of 2018 at the school of his choice, but the current situation has those plans on hold for now. He could move forward with early graduation or wait things out on the recruiting trail and graduate next May.

Currently rated a 5.8 four-star prospect, Clement is the No. 14 overall rated offensive guard in the nation and the No. 29 overall prospect on the Rivals.com Texas Top 100 for the 2018 class.
