Immediate pressure on McCoy

AggieYell.com continues its 30 players in 30 days series looking at the most important players to Texas A&M's success in 2016 with number 8, center Erik McCoy.

The Aggies recruited Erik McCoy to play center. Ready or not, it's his job.

Class: Redshirt freshman

Height/Weight: 6'4", 305 lbs.

2015 stats: Redshirted

Why he's #8 on the list: The Aggies are going to have a very inexperienced middle of the offensive line in 2016, with true freshman Colton Prater, sophomore Connor Lanfear and McCoy, who may be under the most pressure of all. In spite of the fact he's never played in a college football game -- he never played center before last year -- he's going to be counted on to make the line calls and handle some of the SEC's big uglies in the middle.

What to expect in 2016: McCoy has drawn praise from Jim Turner and Kevin Sumlin since the spring and there has been no consideration given to moving him. He practices against an elite group of defensive tackles on a daily basis and apparently has held his own. There will probably be some growing pains, but he's going to give the Aggies a much more physical presence at center than they've had in recent years.
