Leadership council selected, MW draft held

The Texas A&M football team held elections and the 2007 Aggie Leadership Council was selected. A&M head coach Dennis Franchione announced the council Wednesday.
The council is made of 14 players and include senior fullback Chris Alexander, senior defensive tackle Red Bryant, senior linebacker Mark Dodge, senior offensive guard Kirk Elder, senior wide receiver Kerry Franks, senior defensive end Chris Harrington, senior wide receiver Earvin Taylor, senior tight end Joey Thomas, senior linebacker Misi Tupe, senior center Cody Wallace, junior free safety Devin Gregg, junior linebacker Nick LaMantia, junior quarterback Stephen McGee and sophomore cornerback Jordan Peterson.

Alexander, Franks, Peterson, Thomas and Tupe are newly elected members this season.
"I think the players take a lot of pride in selecting our leaders who serve," Franchione said. "This is a great group and I continue to be impressed with their effort, dedication and leadership. I am pleased with the work the entire team is putting in this spring."
Eight members of the council were split into two teams of four to act as captains for the Maroon and White game Saturday at 2 p.m. at Kyle Field. Bryant, Elder, Taylor and Tupe will lead the Maroon while Dodge, Franks, Harrington and Wallace will lead the White team.
Neither Bryant nor Harrington will play in the game as they are both sitting out the spring to rehab injuries.
The two sets of captains drafted their teams Wednesday as well. The Maroon won the coin toss and selected first.
With the top pick the Maroon picked senior offensive tackle Corey Clark. The White then picked senior offensive guard Chris Yoder.
The second picks went junior defensive end Michael Bennett to the Maroon and sophomore offensive lineman Michael Shumard to the White.
"It looks pretty even to me," Franchione said. "I thought both sides were well prepared, but as always there were a few surprises."
For the first time in the Maroon and White game's history one player will see time on both teams. McGee will quarterback each squad during the scrimmage.
"My teammates know I will give my very best no matter if I am Maroon or White," McGee said. "I know both sides will compete."
There is a 24-hour trade period before the rosters are finalized.
Before the game Sunday there will be an autograph session at G. Rollie White on Saturday from 9:30-11 a.m.
