Meet the new guys: Laquvionte Gonzalez

As Texas A&M's fall camp draws closer, AggieYell.com will introduce each of the players who are arriving in College Station this summer. Next up: wide receiver Laquvionte Gonzalez.
High School: Cedar Hill

Height/Weight: 5'10", 165 lbs.
2012 statistics: 179 carries for 1,421 yards (7.94 YPC) and 20 TDs; 34 receptions for 441 yards and 4 TDs
Awards/Recognitions: Under Armour All-American; Rivals 250 member; 5A All-State Honorable Mention; USA Today All-USA Second Team; 7-5A Offense MVP
Why the Aggies wanted him: With Ryan Swope gone this year, the Aggies have not only lost their most prolific receiver, but their most explosive pass catcher in the open field. Even though he was primarily a running back at Cedar Hill, Gonzalez was already nationally known for his blistering speed and incredible agility, the likes of which Texas has only seen once in the past decade in the form of future teammate Trey Williams. Even though he's slight at only 165 pounds, his agility makes it extremely difficult to get a clean shot at him. His amazing athleticism goes beyond speed and shiftiness, he's also an extremely good (and self-taught) high jumper. The Aggies expect his transition from running back to wideout to be swift, as did Nebraska, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Clemson when they offered him. But the Aggies led for Gonzalez from the start, and his recruitment essentially ended when he committed to A&M on March 8, 2012.
