Two-minute drill

Texas A&M's up-tempo offense has seen the Aggies get much more plays off than their opposition. The same was true against Arkansas on Saturday with the Aggies running 93 offensive plays from scrimmage, totaling 458 yards. Arkansas, meanwhile, ran just 58 offensive plays Saturday. A&M has averaged 87.5 plays from scrimmage a game this season.

By the numbers

A look at a few numbers from A&M's 47-19 loss to Arkansas.

118A&M true freshman wide receiver Brandal Jackson caught four passes for 118 yards and a touchdown in his second start in place of the injured Jeff Fuller. The 118 yards is the third-most in Aggie history for a freshman in a single game.

5A&M junior quarterback Jerrod Johnson threw for 345 yards Saturday, his fifth 300-yard day passing in his career which is an Aggie school record.

3Johnson's 345-yard passing day was also his third 300-yard passing day in 2009, tying the school record set by Dustin Long who had three 300-yard passing games in 2002.

169Johnson did not throw an interception against Arkansas and has yet to throw one this season, bringing his total to 169 pass attempts without an interception.

16Texas A&M entered Saturday's game as the national leader in sacks with 4.7 per game. The Aggies recorded two against Arkansas, bringing their season total to 16. A&M had 16 total sacks in 2008.

153A&M sophomore cornerback Lionel Smith had seven kickoff returns and totaled 153 yards on those returns, the fifth-highest total in A&M school history.

Winning the turnover battle

A&M won the turnover battle against Arkansas, 3-2, with two fumble recoveries and an interception while the Aggies turned the ball over twice on fumbles. A&M, however, didn't capitalize on its chances while the Razorbacks did.

A&M linebacker Kyle Mangan's second quarter interception gave A&M the ball at the Arkansas 45-yard line, but the Aggies lost two yards on the drive and were forced to punt. Arkansas punt returner Jerell Norton muffed the punt, turning the ball back over to the Aggies on the Arkansas 15-yard line. But Jerrod Johnson would fumble on second down, which was returned 85 yards by Arkansas linebacker Jerry Franklin for a touchdown.

"My hat's off to Arkansas but we definitely left some points on the field," said A&M junior quarterback Jerrod Johnson. "I guess I've got to look at film (on the fumble). It was a quarterback running play and it was blocked funny and had a different look to it. I kind of got stalemated and when he hit me the ball just fell out as I went down. I don't know what happened there."

Red zone woes

A&M may have won just about every statistical category Saturday, but lost by 28 points. One stat that was heavily in Arkansas' favor, however, was red zone success. The Aggies had five trips into the red zone and scored just twice. The Razorbacks, however, were a perfect 3-3.

"Arkansas played very well and we didn't execute well at all," said A&M sophomore running back Cyrus Gray. "We couldn't get into any rhythm against them."

Penalties rear their ugly head again

A&M once again found itself committing penalties, and many came in inopportune times. The Aggies were college football's most penalized team heading into the game Saturday, and A&M had eight for 87 yards against Arkansas.

"I'm never going to say the youth wasn't good enough because I'm playing them," said A&M head coach Mike Sherman. "I obviously think they're good enough, and if they're good enough they've got to catch the ball, they've to block and they've got to tackle. We'll never use youth as an excuse."
