It's simple really. Jorvorskie Lane is a beast along the line of scrimmage, running over would-be tacklers and lower the boom on linebackers and defensive backs in the open field. The Aggie Round Mound of Touchdown is a go-to guy on the goal line, and even though every player on the field and all 80,000 fans at Kyle Field know he's getting the ball he still can't be stopped.

The J-Train is coming to town, and he's No. 12 on the list of top Aggies since the Big 12 conference was formed 12 years ago. All 268, er, 275, er, 290, er, 300 pounds of him is coming right at you, so what are you going to do?

You're going to get popped and find Lane falling over you for another six points, that's what.

If there was any Aggie player who benefitted from former head coach Dennis Franchione's option offense the last three seasons it was Lane. Lane has gained over 700 yards on the ground in each of the last two seasons and 595 yards as a true freshman in 2005. In each of those seasons he had to share carries with another running back (Mike Goodson in '07 and '06 and Courtney Lewis in '05) and a fleet-footed quarterback (Stephen McGee in '07 and '06 and Reggie McNeal in '05).

Despite fluctuating from big to huge in weight, and no matter how many Big Macs he eats, Lane has maintained a career average of 4.63 yards per carry. That is much in contrast to the belief that Lane is just a short-yardage back. He may be great in short-yardage situations, but he rarely goes down with just one-, two- or even three-yard gains.

Touchdowns, however, are where Lane has excelled during his three-year career in Aggieland, and where he'll be remembered long after his days on Kyle Field. In the top 10 seasons for rushing touchdowns in A&M history, Lane is the only player that can find his name on the list twice. In 2006, Lane tied the record set by Joel Hunt in 1927 with 19 touchdowns. The 79-year old record was the oldest record still standing in the Aggies' record book.

In 2007, Lane followed up his record-tying effort with 16 touchdowns. His career total of 44 rushing touchdowns is currently tied for the Aggie record with Darren Lewis who set the mark from 1987-90.

Despite the constant issues with weight, Lane has shown just how unique of an athlete he is regardless of what he is called on to do. He continues to show his fleet-footedness in the open field as he can bounce to the outside with ease, or bulldoze over defenders as he takes a dive up the middle.

He has showed off a nice arm in the passing game with halfback passes, and has been on the receiving end of passes as well. In 2005, Lane caught three passes for 48 yards. He followed that up with seven receptions for 82 yards in 2006 and 12 receptions for 115 yards and his only career receiving touchdown to date in 2007.

With one more year left in Lane's Aggie career, he has a new ordeal set in front of him. With new head coach Mike Sherman at the helm, Lane has been moved to fullback where he will share the backfield, instead of splitting it, with Goodson. Despite a heavier emphasis on blocking, Lane will also be a much bigger threat in the passing game in Sherman's pro-style offense.

With good hands and quick feet, it's a certainty that Lane will be utilized in the passing game as much as possible. And don't worry, in those short-yardage situations you can be sure Lane will still get his fair share of calls. Especially when getting that extra yard or two means six points on the board for the Aggies.

Quite frankly, when it comes to getting into the end zone, the Aggies have never suited up anyone better than Lane.
